SYNOPSIS:

Finally winning an Emmy award after many decades of being dismissed as nothing more than an “eye candy” action hero movie star, Rick Hunnington now in his early fifties learns he has a terminal illness with just under a year to live and decides to right many wrongs before it’s too late.

The quick witted yet somewhat conceited Rick tries to reconnect with his once three best friends, that he deeply hurt and now despise him, by offering them one million dollars to recreate the Route 66 road trip from Chicago to the Santa Monica pier they took when they graduated from college. On a not to be denied quest, he travels back to Chicago to visit his Mom and friends to start the process of making amends.

Telling only his friends in secrecy of his condition he convinces them to take the “farewell” trip with him. The trip results in one hilarious adventure after another as they wind down the mostly rural cross country roads re-establishing the strong bond they once had. While on the trip Rick reads a script from an unexpected source that gives him the career altering vehicle he’s been waiting for a long time to come his way… but is it too late.

Rick’s “disappearance” after winning the Emmy has turned into a national story with the whole country getting constant updates from cable news and social media outlets wondering about his whereabouts and well-being. The never shy Rick plays along with mystery around his disappearance to enhance his positive PR one last time.

The sudden media exposure adds to the funny and “over the top” adventure the friend’s trip has now become. Each “Rick” sighting builds up to the trip’s unexpected frantic finish and Rick learning his terminal diagnosis was a mistake. Both jeopardizing the re-established bonds of friendship between Rick and his best friends.

Rick in the end is able to mend the relationship with his friends and realizes second chances don’t come along too often, taking the opportunity to make a change in his personal and professional life.
